I read this week that the Shi Lang, the first Chinese aircraft carrier, has just started her second sea trial. The first was in mid-summer, and some improvements and repairs have been carried out in the interim.
She was originally built in Russia, named ‘Varyag’, transferred to the Ukraine and then sold on to China. What a bargain! I write about her in ‘Gate of Tears’, with a focus on Chinese military and naval expansionism. If you are interested, some of my research articles are at:
